Beautiful facility. Greeted by friendly staff at the Player's Club booth. Excellent selection of slots - wide variety at most play levels. Floor layout made it easy to get around without the usual cramped and congested feel of some casinos. Arrived very early in the day with easy parking and minimal crowd. However, before 11AM the entire place stunk from cigerette smoke. I am not smoke sensitive and can usually tolerate being around smokers but this was terrible. There is a designated players area for smokers but it seems to be totally ignored as smokers roamed the entire casino and half filled ashtrays were just about everywhere. We cut our day trip short and left 4 hours earlier than planned just to get away from the horrific smoke smell. Drove half way back to Dayton with the car windows open to help get the stench from our clothes. Either the facility has insufficient ventilation or the air handlers were not working properly. I can see this casino taking a major hit when the 4 Ohio SMOKE FREE casinos are all up and running. Too bad they spent so much money building this beautiful facility and failed to spend a few extra bucks for some no smoking signs.

I am a 25 cent slot player. I have been coming to this property ( Argosy / Hollywood ) for several years. Up until about 3 years ago I had hit large jackpots at least twice a year. I usually play about the same amount when I go. In the last 3 years I have usually gone home empty handed.

There is also very little machine action nowadays. I find myself going there fewer and fewer times. It just isn't fun anymore. I know of alot of friends that feel the same way. I have noticed recently that their player counts are down. I can sit at any machine I want now. A few years back you had to wait for a seat even on weekdays.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hollywood Casino/Hotel on (Tuesday) July 12, 2011. I was impressed at the beauty of the building and the gardens. We had no problem finding parking. The attendants were very attentive and courteous. We arrived in our room on the 3rd floor. I am a non-smoker and was impressed that there was no stench of cigarette smoke in the hallways or room. The room was very large. It appeared to be clean and we were happy with the price. But.....continue...

I'm not a gambler myself but enjoy people watching. My boyfriend played the tables. I have been to the casinos in New Orleans and in Illinois. At the Hollywood Casino, I noticed there was no excitement. The dealers/attendants were doing their job but they could have easily been machines standing there because they had no personalities. I watched as people poured their money into the slots, pressing button after button and I never saw anyone "happy"...or indicating that they had won anything. At the other casinos, people would gather around when someone was on a roll and be excited with them. The machines would sound but as I looked around ~ these people were not winning... Back to the tables....people would roll the dice and the attendants, again, would make their announcements and would switch out every few minutes but they carried on personal conversations about car racing, etc. while the visitors are rolling the dice. They'd watch the dice then look out into the crowd. They never paid attention to their customers....These employees desperately need motivational training so that their enthusiasm can rub off on to crowd.

Later that evening we at the Passport Buffet. I thought it was nice and had a nice variety of food. It's pricey but we were given a voucher when we arrived so that when we paid for one dinner at $22, the other was free. I would not have have spent $44 on the buffet.

Back to the room...We made several trips from the room to the casino. After leaving the tv on when we left the room twice, when we returned to the room, the tv was off. I haven't figured that one out yet...but everything appeared to be accounted for. It did make me think twice before leaving my purse in the room when I left. Then...the bad part...

The next morning, I had a business meeting to attend. I knew that I'd itched during the night and when I went to the mirror, my eye was swelled nearly shut. There was a bed bug bite on my eye. A bite on the cheek of my face. Two bites on my lower jaw. Four bites on my legs and several from my elbow to my wrists! I reported it to the front desk as we left and that was it...

I just don't think that I want to go back there....

I look forward to going to the casino every year for my July vacation. I sometimes go in November too. I have done it for 6 years now. When it was the Argosy Casino I would play the slot machines and could win some decent money and have a GREAT time. I certainly didn't feel cheated when I left, even if I lost a little money. Last year when we went the second time that year, it was a real struggle to just make back our money we spent, minus food and drinks of course.

But this last time, I mean the last time, I have never won so many times and never got my initial bet back. Just like Wayne Smith, see below. I too played everything from a dollar to a penny and when I finally did win it wasn't even enough to cover the initial bet so you just kept losing a a slower pace. Guaranteed to lose it all though if you kept playing. We would usually win several $40-140 dollar tickets at the 2 cent slots a few years ago but this last time I had to keep cashing out at $20-40 just to try to recoup our loses. I cashed my 20 tickets in and none were worth more than $60 most were less than $20. I never got a Bonus out of $300 cash spent.

I went to Bogarts and it was their last night open and got a club sandwich which was served on regular bread that wasn't even toasted. It was "ok" .Pleasent and attentive waitress though.
We did see the waitresses on the floor more and we had someone emptying the trash, cups and butts often.

This used to be a fun place but I think we will have to see what happens in Ohio next year or maybe a different Indiana casino altogether. We won't be going back there.

Ever since this casino changed from the Argosy to Hollywood it has become the biggest rip off of all time. The slot machines do not pay off at all. I played everything from a dollar to a penny and the machines just ate the money. There were no bonuses in any of the games and on the rare occasion when you did get one, you were lucky to get your initial bet back. We ate at Bogart's which use to be their high end dining facility and experienced the worst food possible. I should have realized something was wrong with the food in this place when during dinner time on a busy Sunday only three tables were taken. The hotel is clean but has a lingering musty smell to the place. Penn National the owner of this casino has proven once again to be nothing more than greedy by ripping off their patrons.
