Pai Gow poker is a very popular table game that is played in many casinos throughout the U.S.
Pai Gow originated in China over 100 years ago and it was originally played with domino-like tiles. Actually, that version still exists today and it is played in a few casinos, mostly to higher limit players and usually to Asian players who seem to have a fondness for the game.
So, Pai Gow poker is just a variation of this same game but it is played with cards rather than tiles. Also, it’s not like a live poker game where you are pitted against others players at the table. Instead, you are simply playing your hand against the dealer’s hands.
To start, you are dealt seven cards and then you must split them into two different poker hands: a five-card hand and a two-card hand. You will then compare them to the dealer’s two hands to see if you win, lose or draw.
If you know the basics of poker you can have an enjoyable time playing Pai Gow poker as it is fairly simple to play and it offers the casino a rather low advantage. Many players also like it because it’s a slow-paced game where there will be a lot of pushes (tied hands with the dealer) and no losses are incurred. This gives them the chance to have a relaxing time and to enjoy those free drinks that the casinos provide!
