They have a non-smoking section that's the size of a couple of bedrooms with about 20 machines maybe 30 at best and everything else in the entire casino is smoking it's an absolute nightmare if you don't smoke cigarettes and it's disgusting there's cigarettes everywhere ashtrays everywhere Ash everywhere it's so gross it didn't matter if I want or lost I was just dying to get out of there I didn't eat I didn't drink I played for about an hour and I couldn't take it anymore and left get with the program down there up in Minnesota they ban smoking for most of major casinos and it's been wonderful you should have very least have half your casino be non-smoking what the hell is wrong with you diamond Joe. Especially with covid concerns the unnecessarily large proportion of smoking areas is just plain wrong
I go there few times never win big or anything I play with players card or no card. I went there afternoon evening or night even late night no big wins at all took my 💰 and machine are tight especially .1 I play by big wheel and absolutely big bonuses the only winners are the $1.00 machine for example 777, Black tie, sizzle seven it bullshit
I totally ignore slots but did notice another review below talking about the 90+% payback figure here like that was a 'good' number. It is not a good number and it certainly does not mean that the average player will leave with 90+% of their money.
For Video Poker the pay tables are not very good, also indicating poor payback.
I usually do o.k. here at Blackjack and Craps, winning more times than not.
Food is mixed. I think the buffet is mediocre, not always fresh. There are two fast food prices, which work for something quick and reasonably priced. Comps can be used. The Woodfire Grille has very good food and service but it's pricey, unless you have comps you can use.
Nice place. I'm glad that they expanded the casino rather than taking the profit and running. I've noticed other casinos that haven't put a dime back into it.
There is a lot of room to roam around without running into someone when you are trying to get to a machine. I like the new reel em in games they have. A few more would be nice.
I like how I get money back to play on my players card. Last time I received 2 coupons for $25 each for free play. Last time I was at Mystique I got $1 and at Waterloo I got nothing.
The $5 buffet they have on Thursdays is the best value I've seen at a casino in several years. They could probably use a few more beverage servers but I like how they have self serve stations.
I noticed they rearranged the newer side of the casino which seemed to spread out the crowd on busy days. I wouldn't mind seeing their prize bank come back.
I've been to many casinos in Iowa and I can't say the Diamond Joes machines are any tighter or looser than normal. I gamble to have something to do and I see it as a source of entertainment rather than a money making affair. I'll go back there again.
We stayed overnight in our RV in a nice, level area. The casino seems to be land based, as I did not see any water near it. It is located next to the Iowa welcome center on I-35, just south of the Minnesota border.
We were there on a Friday night and it was quite crowded and smoky. Saturday morning the smoke wasn't that bad. The machines were fairly tight, but it seems like most are now. We saw very few waitresses and just got soft drinks from the self-serve beverage center. We will go back next time we are passing through. We ate at the Burger King that was overly priced. If you want Burger King, stop at the one outside of the casino near the rest area/welcome center.
