Back at NYNY after a 2 year hiatus due to illness. It was great to be home. Still a great place to stay and gamble. Slots seemed a lot looser this year. Actually won some money. Try staying here you will love it.

Been going to NY NY for years on my Vegas trips (though I often stay at other casinos on the same trip as I am glad to take the comp rooms). First I need to say that MGM casinos (of which NY NY is one) as well as Caesars/Ballys casinos can shove their resort fees up their... (well, you figure it out). As a stock holder in both casinos, hurray! But as a "pleasure gambler", that resort fee is the biggest scam EVER. Good lord, you'd expect the MOB to still be running Vegas by coming up with "a resort fee"!
On the positive side, though this casino shares the name of one of the largest cities in the world it has the feel of a "small hometown". It's easy to get around, has a nice "flow", and has everything the major sized casinos have. It has a nice variety of slots (I'm a slot player), though in recent years I've seen far too many Asian-style slots (the kind of slots you find being sold on eBay), and far less "theme slots" (like "I Love Lucy", "Saturday Night Live", "Twilight Zone", "Star Trek", "Happy Days", etc.), which is the kind I most enjoy since they have a high "entertainment value" over just the "hey, I'm addicted to slots and gambling" factor.
Drinks could come a little faster at times, but not too bad. Machines are about average on "looseness factor". The piano bar area can be noisy as a drag race at night when the "regular crowd shuffles in". The area with restaurants (which look like a New York street) are visually appealing and the food is good (especially the pizza).
Speaking of food, almost every one of my Vegas trips starts with a stop at Nine Fine Irishmen restaurant in the casino. Excellent Shepherd's Pie and the Fish & Chips are good (as long as they drain the oil before dumping it in the basket). Can't go wrong with a Guinness to start the trip either.
Overall, nice staff (especially Players Club people)! Rooms are nice, smell clean, very comfortable. This is a excellent choice for a place to crash while in Vegas (on the flip side, Planet Hollywood rooms were humid, musty, AND stinky!)

We walked over to the New York-New York Hotel & Casino when we stayed at the Tropicana Casino recently. There is a pedestrian walkway that goes over the streets at the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. so you can walk from the Tropicana Casino to the MGM Casino to the New York New York Casino to the Excalibur Casino back to the Tropicana Casino.
When we entered the New York-New York Hotel & Casino we stopped at a Starbucks and was able to use our Starbucks gift card to pay for our coffee. All the casinos at this corner are always very crowded.

New York, New York is a cool place. It really does have a New York feel too.

I can start with the good...

I had a Broadway Deluxe room, on a higher floor. The room had everything you would need, a little on the small side, but hey, so are the rooms in New York. There was what I thought was a small fridge in the bathroom, but it was a freezer and froze my beer. That's okay when it's triple digits outside as it thawed quickly... We were in the Empire State building, which was close to the gaming floor and pool and check-in desk. There are a lot of food options here. Gonzalez y Gonzalez is really good. My wife had a Martini with our coupon. According to her, it was not the best, but it also was not the worst. There is a pizza joint in here that is really cool in the evening. You can get a slice of pizza and a beer for about $6. It has an outside feel in all their shops and restaurants. The Nine Fine Irishmen is a great place, and has some of the greatest atmosphere of any bar I have been in.

The gaming floor is big and has every slot machine that every other place has on the Strip. Their Video Poker does not have the best pay tables unless you play higher limits. Their tables have a higher limits, next door was better at Monte Carlo.

Now the "not so good" part of my review...

The majority of the staff here are like a lot of New Yorkers, rude... Sorry, if I offend someone, but you know how it is. A few bad apples ruin it for the whole bunch. There was a bartender who was totally obnoxious when I asked for a drink when I was playing VP and he tried to charge me! My wife was beside me getting served for free? Go figure...

The staff at the front desk seemed less than enthused with assisting us. The wait staff on the gaming floor was either super quick or painfully slow. I guess it depends where you were sitting. After getting one drink and tipping $5, it was over an hour for her to return. I had to send my wife out to find someone. At least when she returned, she brought me two beers and my wife a LARGE, strong rum and coke. But, there was no apology and she actually asked for a tip... I cashed out and left the property after that.

But, all in all, I think I would stay here again, as I know what to expect. I would definitely stay here if there were no resort fees.
