I spent a day playing live poker and a 9-5 DDB video poker I found right outside the poker room. I like this casino. I like the decor. It really develops Native American ideas and themes.
The buffet was just delicious. I especially liked the choices because I am eating more vegetables, fruit and fish and less carbs and meats. They had plenty of everything, but the choice in my foods were better than the average buffet, much better than Foxwoods, and things were labeled well. Gluten free was around. I don't focus on that, but I certainly liked that the strawberries were labeled "no added sugar" Those made a fine desert.
I also like the ambiance. At Foxwoods the music in the buffet is just too loud.
The poker room is much brighter and is on the main floor.
Access was easy from the Groton Inn and Suites just off I-95. Ten miles. I paid $45 plus tax using a Roomsaver coupon. I called ahead to see there were spots and I loved this place. $45 on a Friday was great. They had a sit down served breakfast with plenty of choices and good portions that was included in the price.
I have not been to Mohegan in a long while, but my points were still active.

my girlfriend and i prefer Mohegan Sun, to any other casino, except maybe Vegas. i play video poker, and always do well, i'll win most times, or break even....few times i lose , but i can play for hours, i mean 6 to 7 hours....i usually bet a buck a hand, and really enjoy it. the buffet is the best, and the food court has many options for eating. it's our Casino of choice. My girl also plays for hours, and has a great time.

Spent a week in CT, stayed @ Hampton Inn, in Groton, was a great trip.
Food is expensive, both at the hotel and the surrounding area, but for the money the buffet
in the casino is worth the price.
Gambling was for me super. I was dealt four aces with a kicker on a dollar poker machine,
and hit a royal on a quarter machine.
Slots were not as kind. Played a few hundred, and stayed even for about two hours, but
the high roller area machines, for me, were ice cold, and my few hundred was gone.
The casino is beautiful, compared to the warehouse feel at the Fox.
Staff very friendly, and I was given a comp for the buffet.
All in all I'll be back in March.

This place is sinking faster than a submarine with a screen door.
The comps are not what they used to be.
I think the bad economy has made these folks feel that your money is just not enough.
The staff is still nice and the hotel too.
The gaming leaves much to be desired.
No wonder they are having financial problems.
NO LONGER A GOOD PLACE TO GO.
Save your $$ and go to AC!

Mohegan Sun has recently decided to become unfriendly to video poker players. While the pay schedules seemed to be improving, the players club has decided to not award points to people who play 9/6 jacks or better or 8/5 bonus poker. Once my points are used up at their restaurants, I will be playing at Foxwoods.
