For almost 45 years card rooms have been legal in the state of Washington. When originally started, in 1974, card rooms were limited to just five tables per location. The law later changed in 1996 to allow up to 15 tables per location. A year later, a provision was added to allow house-banked games such as: blackjack, pai gow poker, Caribbean stud poker, let it ride, casino war, and numerous other card games. Some games that are not allowed are: baccarat, craps, roulette, and keno. These card rooms are commonly called “mini-casinos.” The minimum gambling age in a Washington card room is 18.

The maximum bet at each card room varies and is dependent on certain licensing requirements. The maximum bet is capped at $400. The hours of Card rooms in Washington vary, but they can not be open for more than 20 hours per day.
