Details on Casinos in Pennsylvania

In Mid 2004 the Pennsylvania legislature legalized slot machines at 14 different locations throughout the state: two hotel resorts, five stand-alone casinos, and seven racetracks (racinos).

The traditional stand-alone casinos in Pennsylvania are allowed to have up to 5,000 machines each. The hotel resort licensees, however, are only allowed up to 600 machines in their casinos and mini-casinos can have a maximum of 750 slots and 30 table games

All Pennsylvania casinos offer such games as: blackjack, roulette, slots, video poker, craps, three card poker, mini-baccarat and Pai-gow poker. Select casinos offer such games as: poker, four card poker, baccarat, Texas hold’em bonus, ultimate Texas hold ‘em, pai gow, let it ride, Spanish 21, big 6 wheel, Mississippi stud, Sic-Bo, and casino war.

All Pennsylvania casinos are open 24 hours a day. The minimum gambling age is 21 at casinos, and 18 for pari-mutuel betting.

Parx Casino in Bethlehem is often referred to as the most popular place to gamble in the state. The Wind Creek Bethlehem is also very popular and the best stand-alone casino in Pennsylvania. The best casino with a hotel and resort in Pennsylvania is Valley Forge located in Prussia.

New Casinos Coming to Pennsylvania

There are two new casinos expected to open in the future. Parx Shippensburg is building a 73,000 square feet “mini-casino” which will offer 500 slot machines, 48 electronic table games, and a sports bar. The casino will also feature a 100-seat restaurant with full bar featuring wide selection of beers. That casino is expected to open by mid-2023.

Another casino project is still in its initial ground-breaking stages. Bally’s is building a $123 million “mini-casino” at the Nittany Mall near Penn State University in State College.  That casino, however, is not expected to open until late 2023.

Pennsylvania Sports Betting

Sports betting is available at Pennsylvania casinos and it was first launched on November 17, 2018. Be sure to check each individual casino’s listing page to see if it offers sports betting. The minimum age for sports betting is 21.

Valley Forge National Historical Park

This park symbolizes the suffering, sacrifice, and the triumph of the American Revolutionary War. This site is a great place to go if you love history as you will see how the American soldiers endured some 2,000 casualties due to disease, hunger, and poor conditions after the British destroyed their key supply center during the winter of 1777-1778. You will learn about this history through the exhibits, films, and tours around the park. The park is located on the northwestern part of Philadelphia. While at the park, you should also make sure you do not miss the National Memorial arch which features trails and recreational space that you can explore.

Visit Intercourse

This is a quaint town with an old-style country atmosphere and can be found just east of Lancaster on SR 340. Go sightseeing at Phipps Conservatory

This is a huge complex located in Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park that features botanical gardens and facilities that cover more than 15 acres. Relive history at Gettysburg National Military Park

This park is the site of the Gettysburg Battlefield which was where the Civil War battle took the life of about 51,000 people during three days in 1863. There are now hundreds of markers and monuments that surround the park. Some of the highlights of the park are Seminary Ridge which was the position of the primary Confederate west of Gettysburg for the second and third day of the battles, the Cemetery Ridge, which was the site of Union Lines for the final two days of the battle, and Oak Ridge which is the site where the Civil War battle started.
