This is a special and homey place to visit. Great staff, great food, comfortable rooms, and fun games. I have been visiting this casino for years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere.

I have been going to this casino since it opened. Until the last few years the comps
have been easy to receive and generous. Now I am lucky to get one buffet on my card
each time I come. Before I would bring another person or a few people and could get
meals for every one of them free on my card. Now it is often hard to get one just for
myself. I am gambling the same amount or more but it seems they cut back on comps. I would have expected the opposite with Ohio having casinos but they have become tighter on comps.
I make hotel reservations and found I cannot make a reservation over a month ahead of the
date. That is another change they have made. Plus, most of the time when I arrived a room
would be ready (about noon). Now it seems they wait until 4 p.m. to check me into a room.
While I realize that is what they tell you, your room will be ready by 4, I am always asked
what time do I think I will arrive and I say 11 a.m. to noon.

I love this casino! It has that Mom and Pop feel unlike the Argosy and Belterra. The comps are very generous and most of the dealers at the craps table are fun and personable. With 25x odds, it clearly has the most opportunities for winning in the area. The buffet is consistenly good but the cocktails are badly watered down. I never play slots so I gave it a "3" because I had to put something down..

Rising Star's slots are a wee bit above average, compared to Belterra, Hollywood and Hoosier Park.
I don't play table games, but have heard they are average.
Customer service is poor - slot attendants take forever to assist you, upper management and hosts are arrogant and smarmy, security spends most of their time making snide comments about patrons to one another, player's club personnel is inept and ill-trained and treat any information you try to pry out of them as if it's top secret information.
The gaming atmosphere is non-existent during the week - most of the patrons are refugees from the nursing home, sitting around in their wheel chairs with their oxygen tanks waiting for the end to come. Things don't get a whole lot better on weekends - there's more noise, but most patrons are not impressed with the amount of play they get for their money. Most drawing winners are from Cincinnati or - surprise! - Rising Sun.
The hotel room carpeting is nasty dirty and room decor is about thirty years behind the times. I wasn't particularly surprised when we found bedbugs on a recent visit.
The food and drink in the players lounge is literally the same stuff every day - the buffet is somewhat better, but way overpriced for what they offer. The only place for patrons to get a self-service drink is clear up on the fourth floor, although there are bars on the first and second levels.
