Tourist Attractions In West Virginia
If you are the type that loves sightseeing and learning new things, you will surely love West Virginia.
Some of the attractions that have hauled in tourists from all parts of the world are the Seneca Rocks, which are 1,000 feet to 4,863 feet above sea level, and the Monongahela National Forest, which measures over 900,000 acres.
The Greenbrier is another of West Virginia’s most popular site attractions because it is one of the country’s oldest resort hotels, plus it has a casino! Other landmarks like Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, the West Virginia State Museum at the Culture Center, and the Adena Burial Mounds are all great too.
List of Casinos In West Virginia
There are five casinos in West Virginia, four of which can be found at pari-mutuel facilities, while the fifth is located in a historic resort hotel. The casino at the Greenbrier Resort, technically, does not allow the general public to enter the casino. Instead, it limits entrance to only overnight guests, members of the resort’s sporting club, and people who are participating in a convention or event.
The four racetrack casinos in West Virginia are: Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, Mardi Gras West Virginia Casino Resort, Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort, and the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center.
Two casinos: Hollywood and Mountaineer both offer live horse racing at their tracks, while the other two casinos: Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island offer live dog racing.
In addition to the state’s five casinos, some bars and restaurants in West Virginia are also allowed a limited number of Video Lottery Terminals (VLT) games. The games played at such places are blackjack, keno, slots, etc.
General Information About Casinos In West Virginia
It should be noted that the electronic gaming machines at West Virginia casinos are slightly different than the slot machines you may find in Las Vegas or Atlantic City casinos. Instead, the games are all video lottery terminals (VLT’s). Video lottery terminals are basically the same as regular video gaming machines, but they are called VLT’s because the state’s lottery commission regulates them and receives a share of each machine’s revenue. VLT games include: blackjack, keno, slots, and several versions of poker.
