The Rivers Casino has the lowest slot payback percentage in the USA. They return slightly less than 90% according to the PA Gaming Commission site. Compare this to the highest payback percentage in the USA which is and has been for the last five years of 95.1% at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis. Pennsylvania slot players are getting a raw deal and completely ripped of by this generic type casino. The Rivers doesn't simply have one armed bandits, they have one armed asassins! If you go to the Rivers to play slots you will lose! Save your money for plane fare and go to a real casino.
The slot machines are mostly weird video types of which I have never seen before and the slot floor layout is like a maze with no rhyme or reason to it.
Customer service is non-existent, the attitude of the employees is terrible. No hospitality training at all?
The cashback, free play rewards program is the lowest I have ever seen. Food comps are not offered at all?
The place is always dirty, from the entrance ways to the elevators and around the slot machines. The place also wreaks of the putrid smell of cigarette smoke.
This is a ghetto casino built in the hood as part of an urban renewal program, at night it is filled with gangbangers, pimps and scantly clad ladies of the night. Hip hop rap blares out of the loudspeakers most of the time. Bars are filled with the drunken 20-30 something crowd, fights are a common sight and thefts occur regularly.
The only good part of this place is the buffet but at $26 it is overpriced. The Rivers Casino is definitely a place to be avoided at all cost!

Well, I would have to disagree. Maybe night time is different. However, I've been going days for over 6 months and have never seen anything that you mentioned. Of course the machines are going to be tight. Have you checked out what kind of cut the state gets from the winnings? It's Pa's fault, not the casino's. The casino is usually clean and you almost always see someone picking stuff up. As far as it being "Ghetto", I've walked the North Shore quite a few times and even walked by the state prison. I never felt in danger. In fact, I felt safer than most other urban areas with casinos. Compare this to Detroit, where you never feel safe and have to look over your shoulder at all times. I think Pittsburgh is one of the nicer areas in the Midwest with a casino. They've developed it into a nice destination city.

You know you can trash a place with the truth and then there are straight up lies. I am no fan of Rivers Casino and yes their game has definitely changed over the year since they opened. But come on Tommy D. and others, this place is not full of gang-bangers, pimps and scantly clad ladies of the night. There are no more fights at the Rivers than ANY other Casino I have been in on the East/South Coast and Vegas. Thefts do not occur regularly. They have one of the tightest security systems around--make no mistake about that as it is constantly talked about in the media in the area. There are over 1700 security cameras on the gaming floor and the PA State Police are ON-Site 24/7 which is why I have never had an issue with concerns of trouble of any sort there.
I have been there/left there at 3-4 in the morning with several thousand dollars in my pocket from an unexpected win one night. It was well know I won because the hit was large and it was a Saturday night into Sunday morning when they made a big deal about it. I walked out of the Casino and stood out front waited for a cab and went home. Not a single soul bothered me.
"Hip Hop rap blares out of the loudspeakers most of the time?" This is an out and out lie unless you call "Day Dream Believer", The Beatles and the entire genre of soft rock type music Hip Hop and Rap. The music is either from the bands playing or from the piped in "elevator music"
As far as being filthy, again another straight up lie. There are peak times in any establishment however I have been more annoyed on some occasions of the floor staff emptying my ash tray or asking if I was finished with my beer than seeing anything filthy.
Food Comps and Drink comps are set by the State Gaming Commission not the individual casino. I do agree, I am used to AC comps, Tunica Comps etc. Comps are taken off at any register where you buy food. Usually they send 10-15 in food and drink in the monthly mailers.
Rivers has been know to pay out more in the past--when they first opened and pre-table games. I know that for a fact based on my profit and loss statements. What I am hearing from a lot of folks on here is that Rivers is a ghetto casino. Apparently the real issue is you are not used to being around black folks in a relatively closed social environment. As far as being an Urban Development project in the hood...There were several sites that a casino was going to be built in the city. However this area near Heinz Field, PNC Park, the Riverwalk etc, was the most logical based on traffic flow and proximity to other larger venues in the city. The other two sites were Station Square and near the Mellon Arena. Neither of those places would have worked well due to the congestion and lack of parking.
Cigarette smoke? I am a social/light smoker. I notice smoke smell on my clothes as well however it isn't any more worse or better here than in your average tavern. There are definite smoking and non smoking areas in the casino that are strictly enforced. You really can't smoke in the non-smoking area because you will be told quickly by floor staff.
Over all I agree, if you are a "serious slot player" and enjoy playing high limits etc...then the Rivers is not for you (or me). If your gram/gramps blowing off your money from the bus trip and not really interested in much more then it is ok. But the payout at the Rivers and all other PA Casinos are right at 90.1% which is pretty horrible. Bottom line, write a review, trash anyplace all you want. But have enough self-respect to tell the truth. See you all at Mountaineer.
