I happen to be paralyzed and in a wheelchair, but fly out several times a year to enjoy Downtown Vegas which for me is much more accessible, convenient and safer than getting around the Strip. I often venture into casinos alone as my friends do not share my interest in sportsbook wagering and I can only sit with them at 21 table for a couple of hours before I get restless.

There is a lot to like about the Golden Nugget -- along with the El Cortez, it has my favorite sportsbook (Ed is an exemplary employee) that is always clean, up-to-date and provides a lot of wagering options, including futures. They also provide free drink tickets to the nearby bar which provides quality beverages prepared by expert mixologists (my friend loved her Pina Coladas). As an added bonus (for me anyways), the Golden Nugget cocktails waitresses have my favorite uniforms which accentuate the abundant cleavage of the servers.

One important comparison is after a trip last year where a couple of wagers won while I was on the flight home, I sent my Golden Nugget ticket in as directed and received a check in less than 2 weeks. I sent a winning Binion's ticket on the same day and didn't receive a check for about 2 months.

What impresssed me most about the Golden Nugget is how clean it is and how well the property is maintained.

It also has a large pool area that is nicer than many of the famous resorts on the Strip and I always enjoy the tropical fish and shark displays.

The Golden Nuggest marketing and casino promotions department is also on the ball with regular offers for discounted rooms and clever special events/entertainment.

It could walk, I would probably stay more often at the Golden Nugget, but it is a little too big and spread out like the Strip resorts for me to get around the property easily in my wheelchair and get in and out of my room to Fremont Street quickly.

But overall, they do things right and first class at the Golden Nugget and it is easy to see why many people consider this resort the best place to stay in Downtown Vegas. Overall, it attracts a nicer clientele with fewer vagrant types hanging around the property.

I am always careful about staying at casinos that have great deals because it usually means the hotel is horrible to stay at. But this hotel is nice. It could use an upgrade but for the price it is a nice little hotel and casino.

It'd been several years since we last stayed at the GN so we decided it was time to re-visit one of our favorite Hotels in Vegas. Booked two Gold Club Rooms at a great price for my wife and I and another couple last August for a Feb. 2012 stay. We loved the VIP perks associated with the Gold Club Rooms and the rooms themselves were awesome, as nice as any place we've stayed on the strip. The Gold Club Rooms were in the Gold Tower with elevators right by the casino and close to Freemont Street. No one could access the Gold Club floors (16 & 17) unless they had a Gold Club Card to insert in the elevator control panel slot below the Gold Club floor buttons which was a nice security feature. Our room on the 16th floor overlooked the pool area with a great view of the mountains in the distance.
From the friendly VIP check-in, to free wi-fi, turn-down service, free daily newspapers, free coffee, free bottled water, free fruits and snacks all day long, tv in the bath, dvd/cd player, big screen HD tv, free use of the spa facilities (a big thanks to the friendly attendants), and the spotlessly clean rooms (Great housekeeping dept.) this trip thanks to the great accomadations and the friendly staff throughout the GN turned out to be the best we've ever experienced in Vegas (approx 25 trips over the years).
We're done with the strip and their wall to wall crowds, jacked up meal prices, 6/5 blackjack, tight slots, obnoxious employees and patrons and the long distances between properties. From now on it's the Golden Nugget and friendly downtown for us.
One thing a lot of Vegas tourists fail to do is tip the housekeeper, these ladies work harder for less money then anyone in Vegas. By leaving a few bucks each morning with a thank you note these ladies will make the extra effort to insure a spotless room with new toiletries everyday.
Parents, instead of indulging your own self-gratification take your kids to Disneyland, Disneyworld, Six Flags, or a National Park, or anywhere for vacation other then Vegas where there's public drinking, gambling, smoking, porn slappers on every corner, and foul language heard every 30 seconds by drunken 20 something's when walking down the strip at night. Vegas tried the family vacation destination thing in the mid 90's and IT FAILED!! Vegas is a Disneyland for adults not children. The only Hotel that caters to families is Circus Circus and it's a dump.

The Golden Nugget is located on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. My husband and I travel to Vegas at least twice a year and we love the downtown area! In fact sometimes we do not even make it to the strip. The Golden Nugget is hands-down our favorite hotel downtown, on the strip or even in boulder. You have to see it to believe the gorgeous rooms, the multitude of games on the casino floor, the great resturants, the service, it's all great! And the best part is you do not have to pay a resort fee and the rates are very reasonable.

I found the Golden Nugget several years ago and have stayed there since. The rooms are very to date and very clean. Prices are much less than the same type room on the strip and NO RESORT FEE. I love the poker room and receive a meal comp after four hours play during a day. My only complaint about the Golden Nugget is the buffet. The buffet seems to be going downhill in its quality.
