After hours check-in to the RV park. Front desk clerk was fantastic and knew what requirements my RV needed. Level pads. Bathrooms, while dated, were extremely clean. Small-ish outdoor pool was closed for winter so no review there. The wife, a novice slot player had the required by law return on $200 play (so no complaints there). While I had a great run on both the Blackjack and "Carnival" card games.
Yes, the casino is across the street from the Hotel and RV park. I don't drink so driving back and forth is no problem.
Yes, it can get smoky at some tables. But I smoke and there never was a time it was overwhelming. So snowflakes beware.
Yes, it is about the average casino that I have experienced that doesn't primarily cater to "Whales" (that I saw). Nice blue collar people.
No, don't listen to haters. If you are in the area, stop and play, and have fun. If you are that serious about casinos, become a pro and move to Vegas.

If you're a smoker, the place isn't so bad (for a casino not on the coast).
If you're a non-smoker, take my advice and stay home.

Casinos all over the country have non-smoking poker rooms. Not this place. Nowhere in this casino can you get away from second hand smoke.

Great Atmosphere. Great Entertainment. Great Hospitality. Great Value for your Dollar. Wonderful experience! My first time out to visit the Ameristar. My colleagues and I were welcomed with 'the Red Carpet' service by our fantastic host, Diana Cole. I recommend asking for her to improve your experience at the Ameristar.

I was excited to check out a riverboat casino, and in the area for work. The outside looked awesome, the inside was super smokey and had garbage on the carpet. We clearly didn't know where to go no signs just looking lost, and it was really hard to find anyone that worked there that wasn't avoiding eye contact and walking off. Finally found where you sign up ourselves and got in line. We heard some casinos put a little money on the card your first time, we told the girl at the desk after waiting in an impossibly long it was our first time. She asked us info like our phone number, addy, email... we figured they were confirming we were new. She gives us our cards, saying nothing. So we go off to the slots, and find a $0 balance. Why did they need all our info then? Whatever, we go to a touchscreen machine, to try to put some money on the card. It asks us for our pin. We weren't given a pin, and the number on the card doesn't work as it. At this point, I've inhaled enough second hand smoke to take a year off my life. Even the tiny non smoking area on Level 1 (down the escalator) has ashtrays and people smoking. I also saw very few cocktail waitresses, and none were carrying any drinks or asking anyone what they wanted. This place had the best reviews? Oh what a world.

this casino is a victim of the economy. It was a pretty good place to be until the last few month's. Services cut, breakfast buffet discontinued and not a place for winners as paranoia has set in. Management sweating all action and hostile to winners who know what they are doing..I found the hotel accommodating and helpful to me. comps honored without question. Don't rely on the bus service from hotel to casino as this has been severely cut also.
Gaming management OUT TO LUNCH!!!! Obviously under pressure to produce income.
