The only types of casinos in Rhode Island are the state’s two pari-mutuel facilities which both feature video lottery terminals (VLT’s). These machines are the same as regular video gaming devices but are called lottery terminals because they are regulated by the state’s lottery commission which receives a share of each machine’s revenue. The machines at these two Rhode Island casinos accept cash but don’t pay out in cash; instead, they print out a receipt which must be taken to a cashier.

All VLT’s are programmed to play at least six different games: blackjack, keno, slots and three versions of poker (jacks or better, joker poker and deuces wild).

Both casinos offer live table games. The Tiverton Casino Hotel property features an 84-room hotel, 32 table games and up to 1,000 slot machines.

The payback percentages on electronic gaming machines at both Rhode Island casinos are released as a matter of public record. Just click here to see a list of Rhode Island casino slot machine payback statistics.

The rules for how old you must be to gamble are the same for both casinos in Rhode Island, so the Tiverton casino age, as well as the age to play at Newport Grand, is 18. For information on visiting Rhode Island call the state’s tourism division at (800) 556-2484 or go to: www.visitrhodeisland.com
