TOP THINGS TO DO IN NEW JERSEY

Although New Jersey is among the smallest states, it’s home to numerous top-rated tourist attractions that you can visit to have a great time. There are many activities that you can try from exploring the national parks and historical sites to visiting museums and beaches in the state.  Atlantic City is among the major attractions in the state and also a great base to explore all the attractions. Some of the best things to do in New Jersey are listed below.

Cape May

This attraction grew in popularity during the 18th century as a trendy and attractive resort town. Cape May is located on Delaware Bay and it is surrounded by beaches, charming homes in Victorian style, and an historic lighthouse which attracts tourists year round. This town is so magnificent that six different US presidents chose it for their holiday homes in years past. One of the top places to visit here is the Emlen Physick Estate, an 18-room Victorian home which is now used as a museum.

Atlantic City and the Boardwalk

Atlantic City is among the most famous coastal resort towns on the northeastern coast of the U.S. and is popularly known for its wooden Boardwalk. The four-mile long Boardwalk was built in 1870 and it is the place where most of the attractions in the city can be found. One of the top spots in the city is the Steel Pier which is a carnival-style amusement park filled with numerous rides suitable for all ages. It includes the massive observation wheel with climate-controlled gondolas where you get to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the city. You can also explore the area by bike, historic electric tram, or rickshaw-like rolling chairs. You should also visit the Entrance to the Stars where you will see the handprints of celebrities like Frank Sinatra. Some of the other attractions that you can visit here are Absecon Lighthouse, Boardwalk Hall, an aquarium, and venues where you can enjoy concerts and events.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

This area covers over 70,000 acres of land. It is located between New Jersey and Pennsylvania and it includes the Delaware River. You can access this recreation area from various points and the two visitor centers in New Jersey are Millbrook Village and Kittatinny Point. You will see a recreation of a 19th-century community with displays of traditional crafts at the Millbrook Village while the Kittatinny Point Visitor Center offers diverse exhibits, mesmerizing views and an access point to the Appalachian Trail. Some of the activities that you can enjoy here are canoeing, swimming, camping, kayaking, and fishing.

Battleship New Jersey

This is the most decorated vessel of the US Navy and it is now a floating museum located on the Delaware River. The best way to explore the ship is to go on a guided tour through the Iowa-class ship that was launched in 1942 and is considered to be among the largest battleships ever built. You will see exhibits and displays of artifacts that show the ship’s involvement in the conflict zones from WWII to the Middle East in the 1980s. Be sure not to miss the bridge where Admiral Halsey commanded the Pacific Fleet. This museum is a great place to go if you are a history lover and it is best if you can join one of the famous twilight tour packages, or even spend a night on the ship!

The Adventure Aquarium

This famous, family-friendly attraction in New Jersey can be found on the Delaware River in Camden. It is regarded to be among the best aquatic education facilities in the United States and it houses over 8,500 marine animals such as sharks, penguins, sea turtles, and stingrays.
