After reading all the negative comments I wasn't sure I wanted to go. I enjoy Mardi Gras and thought I would just keep going to that one. When I first arrived at Charles Town casino and walked inside, I thought it was an unusual layout. The first thing we did was grab us something to eat at the Epic Buffet. This place was really good! If you like a good buffet, I highly recommend this one. After that I got on a couple slots that I don't normally play and was down $39.20. I thought to myself maybe the slots are tight, but I was playing games I don't usually play and didn't have the full understanding or the comfort level of the game. A lot of the games I wanted to play were already taken. So I kept walking around and found a game I liked. I won $60 on this slot machine, before heading to bet on the horses in which I did better than expected. My friend made a nice profit on them and the track was nicer than what you would see on t.v. After the races, I headed over to play the big wheel and won a little on that. I can't rate the table games because they were all full and I couldn't get in on a game. My suggestion for playing table games are during the day or on a weekday. I finally finished on a slot and won $200.00, and my buddy won even more. Customer service was really good too, very helpful! I am not sure about the hotel because it isn't connected to the casino and is across the race track. You may be better off staying at the Holiday Inn. So I would say go here and don't pay attention to the negative comments. Most of the people that have something negative to say are the losers. If everyone won there wouldn't be a casino. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. They do allow smoking which was another reason I almost didn't go, but it is not bad at all. Have fun!
No customer service!! Highly suspect!! I am a regular player at 6 casinos! Charlestwon, WV Statistaclly the beat the odds by such a degree of differentiation that the results have to be false as a result of tampering!! I have been there where I lost 11 in a row, won 1, then lost 11 more in a row! I have lost 14 to 22 in a row more than one time. I have been there with $200 on a $15 dollar table and lost straight out no wins until my chips were gone! Rarely if ever are you ahead. Always behind and playing against a 20! If you have 21 or BJ, you may get a push...
Unfortunately, I traveled to fare to turn around and go home. I spent thousands throughout the day and night....terrible payouts on the 5,$10 slots....I was told by one of the people there by the name of Brian that the casino had the worst payouts of all the casinos on the east coast! What an endorsement by an employee!!!!!!
The casino looks like a real casino but doesn't operate like one. Management needs to understand the psychology of a gambler if they want to keep serious gamblers coming back. Meaning, quit the gimmicks and pay out on slots. Been going for 15 years regularly. Atmosphere and landscaping much improved. Slot payouts and food (other than steak house) gone way down. Spent thousands in a few hours. Not one bell. Went to AC and had 20 jackpots in the same amount of time and money. Gamblers will return and eventually the house gets their winning back and more ... only if gamblers think they have a chance. At this point, Hollywood has such low payouts that most people we know that are regulars don't feel they have a chance on winning and no longer enjoy going. We know of ten people who won't be going back. Plenty of other places to go. Borgata offers free or low rate 30 minute charter flights from DC to AC every month.
Other mgmt decisions / actions indicate that they have no clue how to run a casino as follows: prime slot area converted to an event center (gamblers spend much more than a $50 show ticket goer); staff are unhappy - it shows; staff are untrained - lower tier get waited on at the cashier line in the highest tiered window and nothing is said (most of the time); computer system remains so slow it takes forever to get a food comp printed at the cashier window; issues with player card doesn't get resolved; very low comps (if you spend $16k you'll get about $120 in comps to spend at their one gift shop or food).
Their sister property MCasino in LV is tops. Staff are super happy. Love their jobs. Payouts are very good. Food excellent. Hopefully they stick to their own policies and don't get sucked in to Hollywood WV policies.
Management needs to wake up or resign before they end up with infrequent players that don't mind losing their $100 bankroll.
I live 10 miles from Charles Town slots and I used to go every weekend, but the slots got so bad I quit going and started going to Maryland. Now I am winning more often then I ever did at Charles Town.
