09/28/19 - This casino was recently bought out, and it showed in the casino. There had to be over 200 slots that were either out of service, or in a roped area. Very disappointing. The machines that were working were very old
I find the other comments surprising! I enjoyed my trips (from Canada) to Foxwoods and found the Connecticut Mohegan Sun nearby extra enjoyable because of their large area of poker tables designated Non-Smoking. (I don't want to breathe someone else's smoke coming out of their cancerous lungs!) Because of the enjoyment I had at the Connecticut Mohegan Sun I took a three day trip to their Poconos one in Wilkes Barre. Very, very enjoyable. Got a straight flush and returned home after three days with over $9,000 and I'm not a heavy bettor. I will be returning.
Great place to eat but, I gamble around the world, I would have to state when it comes to payback on machines this is one of the worst casino I ever went to more than 6 times and never won anything. I'm down over 10K on machines. Stay away from the machines but the table games are fair.
We've been there a dozen times and at Mt. Airy about 30 times. We've been to well over one hundred casinos and only Vegas is Vegas. So if you just want a pleasant evening out playing machines MS fills the bill. Remember at MS you have the advantage of live harness racing (and simulcasting) in a great atmosphere which gives you variety.
My wife is a slot player and loves the place. I play the horses or video poker. Payout tables on video poker machines are generally lousy. The policy of "no free alcoholic drinks" (I think) comes from the fact that there is no hotel on premises and nearly all guests will drive home. MS does not want to get sued like other establishments (Giant Stadium in NJ) for "causing" auto accidents by "pushing" drinks. (Consider this as an educated guess by a lawyer)
Buffet is excellent for the price. Great interior design inspired by but not in the league of MS in Ct. Lots of live entertainment and wide reasonably priced food selection. Smoking policy works just fine. Staff while not unpleasant, could be more animated. In Vegas the staff seeks the customer out, in Pennsylvania the reverse seems to be the rule.
The most logical comparison is not with AC or Vegas but with local competitors (Mt. Airy) and other racinos. As a racino its as nice as any and only lacks "real" table games. Better food selection than Mt. Airy.
