My wife and I have been going to casinos all over the country for about 40 years. We were happy that Ohio finally got casinos so we didn't have to travel very far. We've been going to the Hollywood and Scioto Downs in Columbus from the first day they opened. We've averaged going to these casinos about 2 or 3 times per week. The slots seemed to play OK, not great, for the first 3 years they we're open. Then at the end of 2015 we noticed that the slots played a little differently. We talked with many people who we saw frequently at the casinos and many of them noticed the difference too. One day I was talking with a lady about the casinos and she mentioned that her fiancee was in management at Hollywood and he told her that Hollywood and the other casinos did lower their pay out percentage at the end of 2015. I have been trying to convince my wife that it is not in our best interest to continue to go to Hollywood or Scioto Downs anymore, but we are senior citizens and this is her entertainment. These places would have close their doors if it wasn't for senior citizens. They are ripping off seniors. My recommendation is that everybody should stay away from these places until they raise their pay out rate. They are nothing but HIGH PRICED VIDEO ARCADES FOR ADULTS.
I can tell you that I'm often disappointed when I leave the casino but tonight took the cake! First of all, let me say that we frequent the place about 3x's a week since they opened and return so often because we like to gamble and there really isn't another option...other than Scioto Downs which doesn't have table games and is too far from our home. The customer service is horrible! I really try and stay away from any of the staff because if I interact with 2, one will be rude! I've never had a single night where I've had all pleasant interactions with the staff and like I said, I really try to avoid them!
We mainly play the slots because we've met some nice people who we enjoy playing with but the slot machine selection is terrible! There are really only a few decent games and the rest are just filler! I'm thinking they must come in some kind of package because I don't believe anyone would ever pick most of the games they have. The row of machines we usually play on have 4 machines and all but one have blown speakers and they've been blown for months! I won't say how much we spend but my husband and myself are both V.I.P.'s and the our losses from this week alone would more than cover the cost of the machines repair! A machine behind ours and one in front also have blown speakers and its very irritating to say the least! Most of the games have difficult to press buttons and they are also grimy like they rarely get wiped down.
Tonight, the ladies' room by the buffet had to be the grossest bathroom I've ever been in and I'm a sports fan and have had to endure many an outhouse. I won't try to describe the smell but I will tell you I couldn't stop gagging! The floor was nasty and the soap was empty and the towel dispenser was broken and only giving out tiny pieces of paper....but that's how they were all working!
On the way out we stopped at the Zen Noodle to get some food with our comp. I wanted the chicken with broccoli but I was told that I could only use cash for that item?!?! What's up with that?? Oh well, we ordered our regular dishes and were given a number to wait. We stood right by the counter and heard every number called. I saw our number up on the menu board so we moved to pick up our food. The manager totally ignored us and kept helping every other person until we finally had to call out that our number was up on the board. We ordered it "dine in" but ours was in a bag. We told her we didn't order carry out...And in a very nasty voice she says " when you don't come when we call your number, we thrown it in a bag!" What the heck? She never called our number! This was a manager too!
I'm so tired of the staff at this establishment! It's obvious that they aren't out to impress anyone because they have no competition! Friendly employees are few and far between! I guess I'm just used to how appreciative they are in Vegas that you are choosing their casino since there are so many other choices. They really don't have to be nice here because what do they care if I don't come back? They don't! But they don't have to be nasty! I have been yelled at far too many times and I'm not a glutton for punishment so I will just save my money for my next Vegas trip!
I was there a little over a week ago, when I arrived the place looked nice & fancy. Being every from California to Vegas & it being near my hometown I figured this would be a cool place to be. I was very wrong, the appearance fooled me & the beer prices were outragous. & the table games are a complete joke, when you win it seems like certain tables actually play agisnt you almost as if they've hired stand ins to play beside you. Overall some staff were helpful such as helping me apply for their players club & explaining benefits, but the rest of them were just plain rude & snotty. If you want to go have fun with some friends & lose some money i'd recommend this place, but if you actually want a chance to win more than you came with go elsewhere. Oh & be prepared to be hassled by the floor & hired stand ins to try to get in your head if you start to win. Like I said the place is very nice, but the way it is managed almost feels like a scam because the odds are so stacked. But it is gambling after all.
I was there a little over a week ago. I made two trips to the casino while staying in Columbus for business. I live in California and I visit Vegas 3 to 4 times per year, so I know casinos. This casino had their slots wound so tight no one could ever possibly win, not even a small amount! I have never seen anything like this. Don't waste your money or time.
very nicely designed casino with great TV placement to watch sports. Reasonable drink prices as well.
As for gambling, love to play Pai Gow poker. While $25/hand is a little more than you would need to spend in Vegas, the payouts for Fortune Bonus are a total rip-off. For example, most Vegas casinos would pay 400 to 1 for $1 Fortune bonus--5 Aces--Hollywood pays at 300 to 1. That's crap.
$25 minimum at all tables most hours of play during the day is not going to bring the people in............
Unless you need to head to the casino multiple times/week, I'd save my $'s for Vegas, Atlantic City or Windsor.
