I had stayed last at Harrah's, but wanted this time to be on the boardwalk and I was happy that I did that. The location was much better and in Atlantic City parking the car once and then not moving it is the cheapest alternative.
I like some shade on the beach and this location was great. Just along side was the new Revel and across from that was a building that jutted out to the ocean and I could put my folding chair under it or near it and catch the shade while still having the beach. The water was cold, but it was refreshing because it was one of these humid times we were having.
I wanted to ride my bike. Riding is allowed on the boardwalk from 6-10. In the autumn I had enjoyed another open time in the afternoon. However, I had a flat tired and did not get to ride. I will next time.
I did walk on the pier and watch the rides and people. It was fine to see that. There are quite a few places out there where you could bring a sandwich and have lunch.
I brought most of the food I ate. I remembered that the prices of food are high in Atlantic City. I did buy one expensive buffet right at Showboat, the seafood night. It was $37 on Sunday. I also ate a more reasonable meal at the Irish Pub just off the boardwalk.
The place is a small museum of articles, photos, and memorabilia. Much of it is focused on baseball and some of that is very unique and rare. Much of it would be valuable on eBay. All was interesting.
Even the ceiling is covered in old newspaper articles although that is too dim to be read.
The food was affordable. It was not exceptional, although the “pub salad” would make a fine meal by itself. It was good. I had a few chicken wings with that salad. They were very good. I also had a couple drafts of Great Lakes amber and those were very good, two draft mugs were just $5.50 for both, so they were priced right.
I ate at the bar and listened to some folks tell a few stories and react to the baseball game on the flat screen. I liked it all.
I had enough salad to take some back to the room for my early morning breakfast.
Poker at the Showboat was disappointing. The bad beat rake is now $2 from every pot, so with tip winning costs $7. Too much. I better liked the 2-4-6 limit game next door at the Taj Mahal.
Along the boardwalk they have reopened those cheap shops where you can find things for a dollar. I bought a new baseball cap from the Negro Hall of Fame shop. It was a large size that fits my head well and just a dollar.
I had read that the rooms were not as good as Harrah's but I did not notice anything that was sub par. Everything was fine. In my offer these rooms were free while Harrah's would have charged me $35. There was a $10 early check in fee. I got in line to time my check in right to 3 PM and did not pay it. The line was about a half hour wait. The clerk said they charged the fee up until 2:50PM.
Using VP Free I did find the full pay jacks or better and did pretty poorly until I hit a royal. So my gambling paid all my trip expenses easily. It was good fun.
I did not see any shows because there were few open on Monday.

Also, I usually get free room offers without putting in a huge amount of play. So, the player's club is definitely generous with free room offers.

Showboat is at the end of the boardwalk, and we usually start there and walk down to the other end, stopping at all the casinos along the way. The buffet here is fabulous, one of the places we look forward to eat every year. But the machines are tight and the table game limits are high even during the week. Have never won there, but a great place to stuff your face!!

I like Total Rewards, their comp program, because it is good at 4 casinos in town, one in Pennsylvania, and others in Vegas and across the country. The hotel rooms are very nice, many with good views of the ocean. The table game dealers are very professional yet easy going. And the average customer skews much younger than many of the other casinos in town. The place has a party atmosphere especially when you compare it to Resorts which now has a 1920s theme. The buffet is very nice, but getting pricey especially on Saturdays when they have lobster. My only complaint is that they never seem to have enough employees working at the front desk for check-in.

After going to bed at around 1, we were woken up around 4 A.M. by management asking us to leave for repeated noise violations. We had not spent any time in the room, besides going to sleep (which we had been doing for 3 hours). Told them we were not leaving and shut the door. 20 minutes later, the cops broke down the door and rudely escorted the four of us out at 4:30 a.m. They charged us an extra $110 for the door "we broke." Management was extremely rude, and would not listen to our concerns. Nor did they even consider that four people in pajama's in a spotless room could have possibly NOT been the cause of the noise coming from the room next door (the room next to us had about 10 people and were partying all night). Before you save money on a cheap room here, think about whether you want to risk have a wonderful trip go completely wrong due to the incredibly incompetent management that runs this place. It doesn't save money when you're charged for double the amount you had expected to pay.

Also, check-in took about 45 minutes because only two people were at the desk.
Su-Su the bartender was the only pleasant part of the experience,
I have a suite booked for valentine's day weekend which I will now switch to a different establishment.

I plan to post this review on every website possible. After paying $150, I would expect to be NOT woken up, escorted out by the police, and charged for the door they broke down. I know a similar story will not likely happen to many guests, but I want it to be known how their management handles their customer concerns.

I like the fact that if you are at one of the poker bars you actually get your beverage comped!!! It is also the place that I hit my first Royal Flush!!

The buffet is great and the new promotion on Monday and Wednesday makes it even better (25 credits gets you 2 free buffet tickets!)

Overall, it is the best casino in Atlantic City

I swore the last time I came to the Showboat that it would be my last, but my friends wanted to try again. This was my 6th trip to the Showboat. I had the list showing that they run the tightest slots in Atlantic City. It was not just my imagination. But again I went and I have to say the slots were no better on this trip.
I was sitting there begging for a cherry and ended up calling it quits. I love the atmosphere, it is nice and bright and very clean. The food service is very good and priced well for the most past. The crowd was a little younger than at most casinos in Atlantic City.

I am 47 years old and still felt like the old man at the tables and pretty much overall. The Showboat would be a great place to stay and play if they would just loosen up the slots some. I would go there everytime if that were the case. I travel to AC 4-5 times per year. Last but not least, I wish they had more cocktail waitresses. I found myself waiting 10-15 mins for a drink.
Even though their paybacks are so low it's interesting to see that they do have some decent 9/6 Jacks or Better games for quarter players in the House of Blues casino.

I have stayed in the hotel on several occasinons and the rooms are fine, but nothing fancy.

I tried the coffee shop on my last visit and the food, as well as the service, were both good. I never tried the buffet, but I have heard that it is good.
