There are a few good plays offered. One touted by the LVA in the past is the $14.95 prime rib dinner that is served with salad and choice of baked, mashed or French fried potatoes. Midnight to 6AM there are graveyard specials offered that a hard to beat including a $4.95 7oz. New York strip steak, 2 eggs, hash browns, toast & jelly graveyard special is offered. There are also daily specials offered from 11AM to 10PM for a mere $7.95. ]]> Sat, 13 Sep 2014 08:55:06 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Parking]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2507101 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2507101 We always use the adjoining parking garage, but it is long distance through the casino to the room elevators. The garage is well lit and I frequently see security personnel making the rounds. Employees park on the upper level. Surface parking is available at the front of the hotel and free valet service is also available. ]]> Mon, 08 Sep 2014 08:42:20 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Del Mar Deli]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2507084 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2507084 We enjoyed a quick bite at this deli a total of 4 times over the course of our most recent 2-week stay. On the first visit we shared a toasted bagel with a smear of cream cheese. The cream cheese must have been no or low fat because it was very thin. On subsequent visits when ordering a bagel we did not request just a smear. On the last visit we shared a large blueberry muffin which was just okay. For lunch or dinner I highly recommend their chicken soup and the corned beef sandwich. We have also enjoyed desserts which are mammoth-sized. The funbook received a check-in includes a coupon good for 15% off any order of $10 or more. ]]> Tue, 12 Aug 2014 20:20:40 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Silverado Steakhouse]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2507083 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2507083 You generally cannot go wrong dining at any of the company owned restaurants. We have dined at this first floor steakhouse 3 times and have consistently enjoyed our meal. The coupon book received at check-in currently includes a free bottle of wine when 2 entrees are purchased even if you use your points to pay the tab. Late last year my wife ordered the 8-ounce filet while I went cowboy style by ordering the 16-ounce prime rib. Both entrees were perfectly cooked to medium rare as requested and included a baked potato with all the fixings. My prime rib, served with au jus and a horseradish sauce, turned out to be a mammoth slab of beef with most of the outer ring of fat and near fat removed. I only wish our dog had been with us because it took a Herculean effort for me to finish it alone. Dessert was out of the question. ]]> Mon, 11 Aug 2014 09:51:24 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Zenshin Asian Restaurant]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506971 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506971 The newest restaurant in the South Point is Zenshin Asian Restaurant. We stopped in for the daily happy hour that runs from 2PM to 6PM. My wife ordered a Blushing Jasmine (Grey Goose L'Orange, pama liqueur, cranberry juice, spritz of jasmine water and an eatable orchid as garnish). I chose the strawberry Bangkok (strawberry colada, Patron silver, Malibu coconut, fresh sweet & sour, muddled strawberries with a Thai hot pepper). We also ordered a vegetable pizza - a tasteless crust topped with eggplant, mushrooms, tomato, onion, goat cheese and tomato sauce that was undercooked. We will return for the drinks and take a pass on the pizza. ]]> Tue, 20 May 2014 11:09:16 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Nice rooms]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506708 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506708 Non suite rooms are relatively large at 550 sf, clean and nicely decorated with a large floor to ceiling window. One drawback for some is the curtain does not entirely block out the light so one helpful hint if this is a potential problem is to bring along some masking tape. Room amenities include a 42’ LED TV, coffee maker, safe, hair dryer and ironing board/iron. I have checked numerous hotel consolidator websites and consistently get the best rates by booking directly. The hotel offers periodic room sales so sign-up for email notification. The lowest priced rooms are on floors 1-10 with only rooms on floors 9-10 offering a view. ]]> Tue, 03 Dec 2013 11:41:07 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Garden buffet]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506413 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506413 We have dined at the Garden Buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner in the past and only would recommend the breakfast. The price for breakfast with slot card is only $6.45 and represents a bargain, but we always combine it with the 50% off coupon from the funbook. In 2011 a free Bloody Mary was added. On our last morning we were in a rush to catch our plane so were the first in line waiting for it to open. I quickly downed OJ, fresh fruit with yogurt, easy over eggs, corned beef hash and some breakfast tatas. Quality was pretty good and the various options including breakfast pizza, Mexican and some Chinese should please most people. ]]> Mon, 13 May 2013 15:02:52 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Big Sur luncheon specials]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506391 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506391 Though the South Point has been our "home" casino for several years, we had never dined at the Big Sur Oyster Bar before. On this trip I noticed a sign advertising $7.95 luncheon specials available Monday through Thur from opening until 4PM. My wife chose shrimp jambalaya while the pasta primavera with shrimp was my dining destination. Each of the dishes were very fresh tasting and a return engagement is promised. ]]> Wed, 24 Apr 2013 09:20:13 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Don Vito's for Southern Italian dining]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506281 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506281 We have dined at Don Vito's numerous times. Though we typically take a pass on the bread basket when dining out, we make an exception at this restaurant because of the accompanying EVO, sundried tomato, spices and roasted garlic dipping sauce – so good! Entrée prices include a choice of soup or salad. On our last visit my wife wisely ordered the delicious minestrone while received a rather blah house salad. We ordered our usual eggplant Parmesan that is baked with marinara sauce, mozzarella and ricotta. This dish melts in your mouth and, even though I was not overly hungry, I managed to finish every morsel. The accompanying penne with marinara was pretty good as well though we barely nibbled on it. Neither of us could handle dessert, but we had free dessert coupons from the fun books received at check-in so we asked to have ours packaged up for later consumption. These turned out to be very large and runny, but they tasted pretty good. ]]> Sun, 24 Feb 2013 15:28:14 +0000 <![CDATA[South Point Hotel and Casino: Great Casino]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506265 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/nevada/south-point-hotel-and-casino.html/discussions/2506265 Great place. Slots are tight, but not as bad as the heart of the strip. Food was good. If the aroma of horses offends you, you may have a problem in the casino, but the restaurants are fine. I loved the place as my wife and I rented a car and we could avoid the madness of the in town strip. Didn't play the tables- gave up on cards since the days of single deck 3/2 BJ many moons ago. ]]> Sat, 16 Feb 2013 22:52:33 +0000
