I visited the IP casino and the Beau Rivage as comparison. The Pro: 1. Great Comps! Our first visit was with close friends and they shared a comp room with my wife and I. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night and left Sunday. We immediately joined their players club and primarily played slots. I pretty much broke even, my wife hit a couple of jackpots and we left at least $500 ahead of what we brought including what we spent for food. We immediately received comp offers for free rooms, slot play, food, etc.. We booked a comped room a month later for another Friday and Saturday stay. This time wife played slots and I played mostly blackjack and little slots. Again, I stayed about even on the slots and got up a couple of hundred on BJ. My wife again hit a jackpot and we again left up at least another $500. We did not spend a dime out of pocket the entire weekend. We continue to get comped room offers, slot and pit play, etc. Already booked our next weekend. 2. Great food! They have many restaurants to choose from. We ate the buffet for breakfast and it has all you could want. For dinner, we tried the various restaurants and was not disappointed with any of them. Even better was the meals were always comped! 3. Smoke free Casino! The Island View is broken into two Casinos/Hotels, one is called "Beach View" and the other Island View. The beach view is totally smoke free!! The Hotel, the rooms, the casino, the restaurants, all of it. The smoke free casino is not as large as the smoking side, but it has plenty of slots and table games to keep us satisfied. The smoking side (Island View) is accessible by an "inside/heated cooled" overpass that crosses over HWY 90. So going back and forth from the smoking side to the non-smoking side is easy if that is something you want to do. The Cons: 1. In comparison to the IP or Beau Rivage, it is not as upscale. To be clear, the casino and hotel was very clean and nice, but just does not have the upscale POP that the IP and Beau Rivage had. We joined the play clubs for the IP and Beau Rivage and played their slots for a few hours each. I never received any comp offers from either. 2. No Video Poker with decent pay tables. I wanted to dabble in video poker, but all the machines I found had horrible pay tables. 3. Can not bring children or pets. No one under 21 is allowed on the premises. Beau Rivage was children and pet friendly. In summary, if your looking for a nice place that is affordable, don't have to bring children or pets and enjoy comps, the Island View Casino Resort is the place to go! If you looking for high end class and money is not a worry, check out the big named Casinos, i.e. The Hard Rock, Beau Rivage, The IP Casino, etc. ]]> Tue, 08 Mar 2022 18:39:53 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: Stay ]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2507965 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2507965 We are here staying at the island view on the Gulf side and everyone on the Gulf side has been very very nice. I have not paid for a room at this casino for 4 years. They give away lots of free slot dollars on each visit. Slot tournaments are fun. We miss Emeril's Gulf Coast Fishhouse but the Carter Green steakhouse is delicious. They also have a very good buffet, try the boiled shrimp. C&G grill needs some work though. Service and food are not very good. They do need to add more restaurants. Rooms are nice and well maintained. ]]> Wed, 24 Oct 2012 18:06:43 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: Love it!]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2506032 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2506032 My boyfriend and I go as much as possible because of the comps. There is always a promotion or giveaway going on. Most of the staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and even remember your name. The food is above average with a large selection. I can't wait to go back again and again. I have actually met several couples from diffferent states that have become our gambling friends at the Island View. We just call up and see who is available to hang out. I just love this place! ]]> Tue, 09 Oct 2012 09:45:51 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: Lots of games, Excellent Comps]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2504157 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2504157 Love this casino! the comps are extremely generous!!!! ]]> Fri, 10 Jun 2011 03:19:06 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: Island View Surprise]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2504154 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2504154 We normally stay and play at the larger properties due to the rewards and multiple locations. On our last Trip to Biloxi we decided to stop by Island View. I am a table games player but did go and sign up as new member with my wife who is a slot player. The service at the sign up was great very friendly and helpful to me the non slot player. They even gave me a free island view hat for no reason at all. The Dice table was filled with friendly dealers and I was treated great. I do see a few people here said the slots were tight. I did not play them but my wife said they were fine by her. no big winnings but she was able to play for several hours without a large loss. I would highly recommend this property. ]]> Wed, 08 Jun 2011 22:00:11 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: slots]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2504095 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2504095 worst slots I have ever seen. All I can say is, if this is the best, I'd hate to see the worst. The staff were rude, when we signed up for the players club we were treated like street trash bums freeloading off them. The slots are incredibly tight! I only won maybe 20 dollars total but put in 50 of my own money after the 15 dollars freeplay I was given. Waitresses were rude and nowhere to be found, taking between 5, to 10 minutes to bring you your order. We did not play any table games, but I chose a wide variety of slots, from Pompeii to Whales of Cash to Wild Orchid, and none paid out at all. I was there a total of 6 hours playing and waiting on friends, and I was the only one that won enough to cash out, everyone else having pennies on the dollar. I had fun, but it was because of my companions, not the casino. I definitely am not going back. ]]> Sat, 23 Apr 2011 13:00:12 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: Great Hotel and Casino]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2503866 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/2503866 I love the Island View..have so much fun here. It has great rooms, many different new slots to play and many loose with some nice wins. We always enjoy our stay here and the comps are the BEST in MS. They are very generous to their players that is why I am loyal to the Island View. ]]> Sat, 19 Feb 2011 01:41:23 +0000 <![CDATA[Island View Casino Resort: Island View in Gulfport, MS]]> https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/12 https://www.americancasinoguidebook.com/mississippi/island-view-casino-resort.html/discussions/12 Island View Casino in Gulfport, MS, is owned by the previous owners of the former Copa Casino in Gulfport, although legally the ownership is a completely different entity.

Of all the casinos that have returned here to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Island View is perhaps the biggest disappointment. I don?t mean the facility itself. The property was purchased from Harrah?s, and the former Grand Casino?s Oasis Hotel was renovated to house both the casino and hotel. The owners did an excellent job, much better than Harrah?s did with the Grand in Biloxi. But to me, the building that a casino is housed in doesn?t equate to whether I?m getting a good gamble for my money. I look at the video poker, blackjack, poker room and craps tables.

Before Katrina, the Copa could easily lay claim to some of the best gambling in the country, outside Nevada. Even though the evil 6-to-5 single-deck blackjack game had grown like a cancer in the rest of southern Mississippi, the Copa still had the righteous 3-to-2 version. But no more.

And video poker: the Copa was famous for its Full Pay Deuces Wild, Full Pay Joker Poker and 10/7 Double Bonus, which in this player?s humble opinion actually bootstrapped the Copa out of its old fire-trap cruise ship into a modern gaming barge. All long gone.

And I loved the Copa?s poker room. I understand there are plans for a poker room in the casino?s expanded version for spring of 2007, so we?ll see.

Cashback for video poker has turned into free play and has plummeted from .25 percent to .13 percent.

Also long gone is the database where gobs of accumulated comp dollars entitled one to free meals. Of course the database with the mailing list is still there, so where are the comp dollars? The present owner-entity claims that those comp dollars were gifted from the previous owners, not the present owners. Not good for public relations.

But who can blame the Island View? It no longer has competition from Grand Gulfport next door and has a beautiful facility with a nice hotel. It?s the only casino in Gulfport, so why should it offer more than the bare minimum?

Katrina washed away more than the beach and beachfront buildings. She also washed away some of the best gambling in Mississippi. ]]>
