While I know Katrina was a terrible setback for this casino, they are not stepping up like the others in the area.
The greeting by the security people is warm and friendly, but everything else there is not. It is difficult to enjoy this casino in its present state. They have "come ons" to swipe your card for giveaways, but never give anything worth while. Sometimes nothing at all!
The staff working the buffet were actually bickering in front of the public on who was going to do what in the changeover from breakfast to lunch. The patrons don't care to hear this--take it in the back room. In fact, it would seem to be the same procedure each day. Why reinvent the wheel? Sounds like poor management that each staff member doesn't know what is expected of them and teamwork is not stressed.
While the buyout of Harrah's probably is affecting their growth, they should at least tear down the Casino Magic property that they couldn't wait to buy. It now sits as an eyesore on a beautiful gulf coastline.
Now we hear they are laying off employees and complaining about the Biloxi bridge that is being rebuilt as being the reason. The Palace is filled to capacity most of the time. Perhaps The Grand should look at their marketing prgram and provide something worthwhile for their patrons once they get them there.
My wife and I went down to the Gulf Coast for something a little different this year.Usually it's Vegas but we wanted a change, WOW!! Beautiful area and fantastic people! We were comped 5 nights at Harrahs and loved every minute of it.Friendly people and fantastic beach just a 3 minute walk away.There was an annual classic car show going on and still..it was not crowded..I must say this: We NEVER waited in line for ANYTHING!! One of my big turnoffs lately about Vegas is the long waits just to eat a meal.Not here..Can't say enough how clean everything was and how friendly the people were..Surrounding casinos were the same..clean and welcoming...We are for sure going back..Vegas can wait....Oh..Note: I would say the average age down here in October is around 45..No twenty somethings getting out of hand and being obnoxious..If I want that, I will go to vegas!
My wife and I just returned from another 6 day trip to the Gulf..And Harrah's treated us just fine..All the employees are friendly and greet you every time they see you..Slots were quite tight but we enjoyed playing anyway.Food at Mix and Mingle was fabulous as well as the "hurricanes".Also ate at Steak and Shake and that was good also.Room was clean and great bed and pillows! We were comped and the trip was wonderful.There is so much to do down on the Gulf!Get down there if you can.

Magnolia House, is the place to go, for high dinning, at this property. Safe, with full security. Easy to get a taxi or hopper to visit, other casino locations.
