The problem is, this place as well as most the others in Tunica, have gone downhill. I used to play poker here all the time and it was great. The comps are still there although not as good as they used to be (still better than a poker player can get in Las Vegas), but the property seems to attract more and more of the kinds of people I just don't want to be around. It reminds me of some of the Indian casinos in eastern Oklahoma. A very nice property then when I walk into the poker room it looks like a casting call from a Fellini movie! The last time I played at Gold Strike I beat a guy in a big pot and he hit his fist so hard onto the table I couldn't tell whether the crack I heard was his bones or the table! The yelling and cursing and acting up goes on all the time now and management does nothing about it. I won't deal with it so I have quit going there. Overall, the rooms at Gold Strike are the best in Tunica, the property is very nice, service is usually good, but I just can't stomach the clientele. The Goldstrike is by far the best in Tunica. The staff is always pleasant and helpful. The food at the buffet is always delicious. The slots pay well. The rooms are excellent. And everyone acts like they appreciate you being there. To me, that is one of the primary qualities of a good casino. If only we could do away with smoking in the casinos but I understand that all would have to do it in order not to be at a disadvantage. When Atlantic City went smokeless, people still came and I think the same would happen in Tunica. Personally, my biggest turn off is when someone is so rude as to sit down beside me and immediately pull out a cigarette. However, they do have a smoke free area and I certainly appreciate that. This casino is by far the best place to gamble, it has low table limits, friendly dealers and delicious food. If you have ever been to atlantic city and been aggravated by pit bosses that change the table limit frequently, then you will want to come here and play because they will let you play all day long for $5 per hand and comp you well without giving you a lot of lip!! They have a lucky ladies table on the premises and the tables are extremely clean. I am looking forward to returning to this blackjack mecca in the spring with my father and I highly recommend every gambler give them a try. I like the faux fanciness of the hotel and the special treatment you get. It makes the down home feel of the gambling a nice change of pace. There are plenty of low min. table games. The dealers are nice but know what they are doing and it adds to the fun. I like that the video poker is upstairs away from the craziness of the main floor, I didn't like the paytables too much. It was relaxing to play up there. I only ate at the buffet, but again the food was so good and the selection so delightful that there was no reason for me to try anything else. It is really easy to get buffet comps too. The rooms are always very clean & smoke free! Comps are fantastic! we plan to go again this year, the only complaint I have is that they took away the CLEOPATRA slots I always won on, so this past year was the only time we didn't win anything! So now I got to find another winning machine! My wife's coworkers go often as well & have nothing but praise for the GOLDSTRIKE! Just stayed 4 nights at hotel. Great service by all. The hotel is clean and very comfortable. They have now added Wi-Fi to all rooms so bring your laptop. Food is good in buffet although a little pricey in snack bar area. Played mostly slots and after four days, left with more money than I had when I arrived. No big hits just lots of small ones. Only minus is I flew into Memphis and car rental for 4 days was more than I'm going to pay for 9 days in Las Vegas in February. The hotels do not have a shuttle service and the only one available was too expensive plus couldn't get us back for an early AM flight.
