Used to LOVE this place - then the payouts got smaller, and smaller, then almost disappeared. Great place to stay and relax in a beautiful facility, but sure liked it a lot more when I won once in a while.
I've heard that this rivals the Beau Rivage as the best casino resort in the Gulf area.
It is a pretty property (a "Texas Hill Country" theme) although you'll run out of things to do if you're there more than a day.
The restaurants are nice, but my friend did get sick at one of the less expensive ones (not the buffet), probably from crayfish. Also, there was a small roach in our hotel room which is surprising for almost $150 a night.
True, it's a hot climate and overall the hotel seemed quite clean. I can't comment on the casino games as I'm not that experienced, but portions of the casino floor were a little too smoky.
The best aspect was the people -- all of them were very, very nice. I would like to try the Beau Rivage next, but if they open Sugarcane Bay, I'd probably like to check out the Lake Charles area again.
