Ever since this casino changed from the Argosy to Hollywood it has become the biggest rip off of all time. The slot machines do not pay off at all. I played everything from a dollar to a penny and the machines just ate the money. There were no bonuses in any of the games and on the rare occasion when you did get one, you were lucky to get your initial bet back. We ate at Bogart's which use to be their high end dining facility and experienced the worst food possible. I should have realized something was wrong with the food in this place when during dinner time on a busy Sunday only three tables were taken. The hotel is clean but has a lingering musty smell to the place. Penn National the owner of this casino has proven once again to be nothing more than greedy by ripping off their patrons.
I am a 25 cent slot player. I have been coming to this property ( Argosy / Hollywood ) for several years. Up until about 3 years ago I had hit large jackpots at least twice a year. I usually play about the same amount when I go. In the last 3 years I have usually gone home empty handed.
There is also very little machine action nowadays. I find myself going there fewer and fewer times. It just isn't fun anymore. I know of alot of friends that feel the same way. I have noticed recently that their player counts are down. I can sit at any machine I want now. A few years back you had to wait for a seat even on weekdays.
I have been going to this casino since it opened as the Argosy and I will tell you that this place is a joke. I was just there on Saturday, 2/20/10 and in the 6.5 hours I was there, I was only able to get a drink (coffee) from a server once. One time!!!!!
I tried to get a soda at the "complimentary" stations and they were such a disgusting mess I did not want to use them.
The cleanliness has gone to the wayside. The restrooms were in terrible shape and the casino floor had ashtrays overflowing, drink glasses full of cigarette butts, and half empty drinks everywhere!!! It was appalling.
The staff is not rude but their demeanor is fake, at best. I believe they have good entertainment, but it is difficult to enjoy a "free" show that costs so much.
The worst part of my many recent trips is that the chances of winning anything has all but disappeared. It has been a very long time since I have actually won anything worth mentioning at this casino.
I decided when I left the other night, I will not be going back to this casino. I have choices and I am going to use that option and start frequenting others in the area. It is just not worth the disappointment that I feel every time I go there.
If you play poker or table games read this review. I've been reading reviews about Hollywood, Wheeling Island, and Mountaineer. Hollywood casino is the closest thing to vegas you are going to get. The table games are better than all of the big strip casinos in vegas because they give you better odds here. They even have $5 video blackjack tables and video roulette games for as little as $1, so if you like to play small stakes you can do it without spending a lot of money. The only draw back is paying for drinks...way too expensive when you are spending big dollars at the tables.
One word of advice and this is for any casino, if you are good to the staff they will be good to you. I have found that the majority of the dealers and pit bosses are very courteous and helpful. Another great attribute is the TV's (they are everywhere) and entertainment. The new Hollywood on the roof is fun for just about everyone.
If you play poker you need to make the trip to Hollywood, this is one of the nicest poker rooms for any casino. It compares to the wynn, bellagio, and caesers. I might be stretching by saying bellagio, but I would say it is just as nice. They have just about every game you could want running on the weekends...even stud games, which is very rare in any poker room.
No matter what the outcome of my profits and losses I always have a good time.
By the way, if you haven't been since the change from argosy to hollywood, the smoking issue is no longer a problem. If you don't smoke you don't have to worry about your clothes smelling like an ashtray, they have a ventilation system that works (unlike the old argosy). I hope this review helps anyone that has never been.
PS. Sorry I can't comment on the slots, I rarely play and when I do it's for short periods of time.
i had a great time at the NEW HOLLYWOOD CASINO AND WOULDNT GOT TO ANY OTHER IN THE AREA!!! A MUST SEE AMAZING CASINO!!! Hollywood on the roof has amazing entertainment Thursday-Sunday!
I hit several jackpots in about 5 hours play and $20 lasted me a long time. A great upgrade from the Argosy casino. I had a great time and will go back. Friendly employees as well, they treated me like VIP even though I'm not!
