Typical comments about that illusive royal flush are very similar to this recently received email:
“I have been playing video poker for the last 15 years. During that time, I have never gotten a royal flush. I have never seen anyone else hit one either. Other video poker players I talked to say the same thing. I have played for hours and never came close. Just what are the odds of hitting a royal flush anyway?”

Video poker is my second game, so I don’t play it that much except when I’m taking a break from craps or I’m in a casino with some VP with good payout tables. I’ve hit a royal in normal play twice–one on a dollar machine at a casino near my home for $4,000 ten years ago, and one on a 25-cent machine at the Four Queens in downtown Las Vegas for $1,000 six or seven years ago.
I view a royal or a straight flush as a welcome surprise, while hoping for a quad in order to possibly break even for the session.
I just returned from a Vegas trip. i Hit a $4000 Royal on this trip at the South Point. Also hot 3’s w/ kicker on .25 and hit deuces on .25 and .50 a few times.
The week prior I was actually dealt a Royal on .25 Triple Play fore $3000- at Morongo so it can happen. Pay tables on the games aren’t good but it’s close by and I’ve won a few times there.
